The Curvy Con – THIS IS A THING?!

-1

As a girl with giant hips since the moment she hit puberty, when I heard the words “curvy” and “con” together in a title, I lost my gosh darn mind. And incase you are thinking this blog post is some sort of a fever dream, then you would be wrong.

TheCURVYcon (created by bloggers Chastity Garner and CeCe Olisa) is described as the following:

“….a two day event that brings plus size Brands, Fashionistas, Shopaholics, Bloggers and YouTubers into one space, to chat curvy, shop curvy and embrace curvy….”

“SAY WHAT?!” You may (or may not) have screamed from your bed. Yes, there is indeed such an event that has existed in New York for the past 3 years. And with the 2018 conference growing closer and closer, it is getting time to get hella excited for this glorious thing to occur once again…. and for me to get pumped BECAUSE I AM FINALLY ATTENDING.

As someone who has gone to convention after convention, fashion show after fashion show, I gotta be honest with one simple, secret truth – I’ve always felt left out. Now, if you’ve known of my existence for the past 10 years or more, you probably know that I used to be quite a bit smaller – but as college, relationships, bad medication, and life in general happened, I now range between a size 16 and 18. This has taken me on a long journey towards self-acceptance – and though I’m not completely at the finish line, I’m closer than I ever was before.

That’s where TheCURVYCon comes in. Because after watching countless YouTube videos, reading through positive blogposts and the like, I was ready to take a deep plunge into a world I never thought about before….an actual place where I felt genuinely included in all of the fashion fun!

Now of course, this event doesn’t come without its own set of nerves. Firstly, aside from a few friends here and there that seem casually interested, I don’t know anyone going to this thing. Secondly, based on the event photos, I’m not exactly sure my own brand of “sparkle” will fit in with the very modern glam crowd that is attending. And thirdly, I don’t know if I am cool enough for this thing (because the ladies and gents that attend it are seriously cool.)

But then these are the moments when I have to tell myself the following, “It don’t matter, girl. Just be like the Genie says and BEEEEEEE YOURSELF.” Because that’s what so many of the high profile bloggers, fashionistas and other individuals attending this event are doing. They are taking their confidence, pride, and beauty, and showing it off in ways that’ll impress everyone around them – and if I take a moment to do the same, then maybe this dream event in my head will live up to the incredible hype I have around it.

So, in general, I am incredibly (to the max) excited for TheCURVYCon. It has so much possibility to be an event to remember and cherish for years to come. And you can be sure that I will report everything about it when the first week of September arrives!
