Top 5 TheCurvyCon Related Things I’m Pumped For

-1

With a week till TheCurvyCon, the hype train is really pulling into the station. I’ve got my outfits (mostly) put together, my itinerary mapped out, my panels highlighted, and all the other things I do to prep for an adventure such as this.

So, in an effort to use my hype towards something awesome, here is a list of the things I’m looking the most forward to during my personal CurvyCon weekend. Some are taking place specifically at the con, while others will be happening on the same weekend to celebrate the festivities. So without further ado, here’s my Top 5 list of what I am the most excited to experience during (my first) CurvyCon!

5. Seeing Ladies That Inspire You In Person

One of the things I love about conventions in general is the opportunity to meet people you otherwise would never have the chance to bump into in real life. With events like TheCurvyCon, the chance to meet both influencers and other designers that inspire both your style and confidence is crazy! This year, guests like Ashley Nell Tipton from Project Runway are coming, along with Dietland‘s Joy Nash – who if I get the chance to meet her, I’m totally asking her about working with David Lynch (#TwinPeaksLove ❤︎)

4. Getting to go on Some Big City Adventures

As someone who lives an hour outside of Manhattan, I get to do a lot of cool stuff. But at the same time, with that privilege can come a lot of hassle, including not getting to go around the city at early or late hours of the day with ease – since you typically have to catch a train and a subway two hours earlier to make it on time. So this time around (when I’m not at CurvyCon) I plan to take advantage of my hotel stay and hang out with friends, getting brunch at ridiculously early hours (like Juniors and Palette) and seeing late night movies to my hearts content!

3. Wearing Things You Don’t Normally Get To

If it isn’t obvious by now, I’m not one to shy away from showing my style. Fashion is a huge part of my life, and I love celebrating it in anyway possible. But sometimes even with that mindset (and working 5 out of the 7 days of the week till almost 9pm at night) I don’t often get to wear the more adventurous, glamorous things in my wardrobe. But for CurvyCon, I’m going to take some risks and show off some things that I’ve never worn out in public before – and to say my fashion body is ready would be the understatement of the year!

2. “Dear Retailer” and Other Industry Related Panels/Fashion Shows

One of the coolest panels I watched from the live coverage from last year’s CurvyCon was the Dear Retailer presentation. Companies like Target, Dia & Co, ModCloth, Lane Bryant and others showed up and allowed customers to discuss their concerns (and their praises) for the brands, and got tips on how they are improving their work within the plus size community. I can’t wait to see how things have changed with these companies this year, and what LOFT and other brands have to show off during their fashion shows. Plus the Dia & Co showcase (with possible guest, Lizzo) is gonna be #litaf.

  1. Getting to Meet Incredible People and Make Memories

One of the things I love the most about going to conventions is the possibility of meeting new people and making new friends. And with an environment like CurvyCon, the possibilities of creating long lasting friendships and memories are endless. I also can’t wait to be in a room full of supportive and beautiful people, who aren’t judging and turning each other’s hopes and dreams down. Instead, we’re all coming together to build each other up. And that’s a beautiful thing to celebrate.

So, will you be at theCURVYCon this year? What are you looking forward to the most? Comment below and share all your HYYYYYPPPE! And if you’re going to the event, and you see me, please say hi! I’m happy to talk, gush about everything, and even give out hilarious mini clappers to use at panels – and I promise, I’m not kidding.
